Waterford delivered two clear rounds to finish third in the €300,000 Rolex Grand Prix CSI5* presented by Audi at the Stephex Brussels Masters.

The CSI5* 1.60m Rolex Grand Prix presented by Audi could not have been scripted much better. Held on September 2, it was exceptionally warm for early autumn, and people flocked to watch world-class sport at Stephex Stables in Belgium.

It was no easy course that Uliano Vezzani had built for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Big and wide, the first-round track claimed its fair share of victims and in the end, only six entries out of the initial 47 in the competition advanced to the jump-off.

USA’s Lauren Hough gave it a good go, and was clear on her 15-year-old Waterford (Coolcorron Cool Diamond x Julio Mariner xx) in 44.52 seconds, which held for a top-three finish.

“He is not the quickest horse in the world,” Hough said of her partner Waterford. “I thought I had a good shot to the second last—perhaps I didn’t take every risk to the last fence—but I’m thrilled with my result and to be sitting here today. I have been coming here to the Brussels Stephex Masters since the first year, and I think this is one of the best shows there is—it is a real highlight. I think every year, Stephan improves the small details, and I am really honoured I get to come to this show.”

Three Olympic winners, three World Champions, four World Cup winners, six European Champions and twenty-five riders from among the current top 100 in the world were more than pleased to spend three days (June 8-10) at the Glock Horse Performance Center. With prize money totaling 345,000 euros, the Glock’s 5* Grand Prix stood as the crowning glory of the event. At stake, alongside the substantial prize money, were important points for the World Ranking as well as the chance to fulfill qualification criteria for the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon and the 2019 European Championships.

In the exciting first round over 1.60m, ten participating duos qualified for the jump-off through penalty-free rounds.

At the end of the day, the USA claimed the top two spots on the podium with Beezie Madden taking the win followed by Lauren Hough.

The twice team gold medallist at the Pan American Games current no. 42 in the world, Hough, piloted the 15-year-old KWPN gelding Waterford in the pouring rain.

Ohlala Sidelined with Injury for Remainder of 2018 Season

My team and I would like to inform you all that Ohlala has sustained an injury that will take her out of competition for the remainder of this year. Her prognosis is very good, and we expect that, with time and good rehabilitation, she will be back to the top sport next season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fantastic owners for their support and understanding. We will be back!
